Les Petits (4 – 6)

Saturdays 10-11am

For children who have just started school and are still mastering reading and writing in English. This class can also accept mature pre-school children 4+.

Sit down and standing up exercises, games, story telling, arts & crafts.
Games still play an important role as children need to bond with the language and use all their senses to integrate the basic language concepts.

  • Normalise French, especially for those with French at home.
  • Interact in French, understand basic commands and actions.
  • Get used to spoken French while starting to recognise words and French sounds.

Name, age, weather, numbers 1-50, colours, animals, basic location words, basic action (show me, where is, who is), basic adjectives, alphabet, introduction to syllable.

Niveau/Level 2
Les Moyens (6-8)

Saturdays 11am-12pm

For children around 6 year old who have a good level at reading and writing and are starting to learn basic grammatical concepts at school.

Sit down class with exercises & learning documents. Games, stories, videos, audio and arts & crafts are used.

  • Start to get independent with French
  • Start understanding the structure of the language rather than just play with it and repeat made up words/sentences.
  • Reading and pronunciation play a key part.

Children start seeing basic grammatical points such as pronouns, verb forms, feminine and masculine, articles. By the end children can form a basic sentence and answer basic questions in both written and spoken French.

Les Grands (8-11)

Tuesdays 4.30-5.30pm
Repton Community Centre, Ashford

For children around 8 who have a good understanding of grammatical concepts and sentence structure.

At the end of this level, children can continue privately working towards sitting their French GCSE early.

Sit down class with exercises & learning documents. Games, stories, videos, audio and arts & crafts are used.

  • Understanding key grammatical sentence structures
  • Verb formation in the present tense
  • Being for form most common questions
  • This level is very close to the beginners adult classes also available

Children can build a basic sentence by themselves and can start interacting with simple conversations. They can read simple children’s books.

  • Our groups are designed to support primary school children learn French on top of the private tutoring options.
  • These groups are divided by academic skills corresponding to key concepts learnt at school (reading, writing, grammar, etc). These concepts are linked to certain age groups.
  • However each child is different. So he/she may feel better in a different group than the one indicated for his/her age. The level of French will also make a big difference. This is to be discussed with the teacher at the time of joining.
  • French will be spoken as much as possible in each group.
  • All groups are children only
